EU closely monitoring South Caucasus developments amid Baku-Yerevan peace talks
The European Union is closely observing the evolving situation in the South Caucasus, with particular focus on ongoing efforts to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
A senior EU official stated at a Brussels briefing that the Union remains attentive to the recent developments in the region and continues to encourage both parties to advance their peace negotiations successfully, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“Thank you for mentioning these important negotiations. We are closely following what is happening in the region, while also encouraging both sides to normalize relations and successfully complete the peace negotiations,” the official said.
However, the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is not formally included on the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council scheduled for early next week in Brussels. The official noted that foreign ministers may still choose to express their support for the peace efforts during the session.
This comes shortly after a significant meeting held on July 10 in Abu Dhabi, where Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed steps toward peace and agreed to continue bilateral talks aimed at strengthening trust between the two countries.
