Azerbaijan’s ombudsman highlights women’s rights, digital security as state priorities PHOTO
Azerbaijan’s Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) Sabina Aliyeva participated in the international scientific and practical conference titled “Human Rights in the Context of Digital Transformation: Contemporary Approaches” in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
During a panel session titled “Women’s Rights and Gender Equality in the Digital World: Protection and Opportunities,” held as part of the conference, Aliyeva highlighted the importance of protecting women’s rights in the digital environment and creating a safe digital space as key priorities of state policy, Caliber.Az reports.
According to her, the Ombudsman and national human rights institutions play an important role in ensuring the safe use of artificial intelligence without violating human rights.
The Ombudsman emphasized that developments in information technology have significantly expanded women’s access to education, entrepreneurship and public services. She noted that digital platforms have become an important tool for women to actively participate in public life and build self-confidence, particularly for those facing social or physical limitations.
She also noted that reforms carried out in Azerbaijan in recent years have made a significant contribution to expanding digitalization and introducing innovations. She said recently adopted strategic documents are aimed at promoting the safe, ethical and transparent use of AI in compliance with human rights.
During a session titled “Women’s Leadership in Decision-Making,” Aliyeva stressed the importance of creating genuine opportunities for women to participate equally in decision-making processes. She noted that women can contribute to building a more inclusive and people-centered system of governance.
