Azerbaijan’s presidential aide highlights close linguistic ties with Uzbekistan
Every time I visit Uzbekistan, I rediscover how close our languages are. With a little effort, one can easily feel as if they are speaking in their homeland, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev said.
Speaking to journalists in Tashkent, he explained that representatives of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan try to communicate with each other using a mix of Azerbaijani and Uzbek, Caliber.Az reports.
“To a certain extent, it works. When questions related to terminology arise, in some cases we also speak Russian. But mainly, we try to give preference to the Uzbek and Azerbaijani languages. Written texts are easier to understand, and if you hear the speech more often, it also becomes easier to comprehend. Therefore, some practice is needed,” he noted.
