Azerbaijani ombudswoman calls for efforts to ensure sustainable peace
Azerbaijan attaches great importance to promoting peace, security, dialogue and cooperation amid ongoing armed conflicts, humanitarian crises, forced displacement and violence around the world, Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudswoman) Sabina Aliyeva said.
In a statement marking the proclamation of “Peace Month,” which runs from August 21 to September 21, Aliyeva said sustainable peace requires addressing the humanitarian consequences of conflicts, including the threat posed by landmines, protecting the rights of people affected by wars, ensuring civilian safety, determining the fate of missing persons and creating safe and suitable conditions for people returning to their homes, Caliber.Az reports.
According to the statement, the main goal of Peace Month is to raise public awareness of the link between peace and human rights, strengthen mutual respect and trust, and expand opportunities for dialogue and understanding.
Aliyeva called on government agencies, municipalities, civil society organisations and media outlets to organise conferences, roundtables, seminars, training sessions, exhibitions, contests and information campaigns promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence and combating discrimination and violence.
