Presidential aide: Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan ties already have strategic alliance status
Relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have already taken on the character of a strategic alliance, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev said.
He made the remarks while commenting in Uzbekistan on the Treaty of Eternal Friendship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to him, relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan entered a new stage following contacts between the two countries’ presidents in 2020.
“Since that period, relations between the two states have moved from strategic partnership to the level of alliance. Now they will take on the character of eternal friendship. This is the first such case in Azerbaijan’s diplomatic practice, and the second time we are taking such a step specifically with Uzbekistan. Our people have always been friends anyway. If we look at the history of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, there are so many ties between us. This can even be seen in the works of Alisher Navoi and other Uzbek writers,” Hajiyev said.
He noted that the Azerbaijani-Uzbek literary friendship that has existed throughout history has now taken on the character of eternal friendship in the political sphere as well.
“This visit is of great importance for Azerbaijan because Azerbaijanis and Uzbeks are, first and foremost, brotherly peoples. Thanks to the efforts of the leaders of our states, relations between our brotherly peoples have now taken on the character of an alliance, while Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations, as I have already explained to our colleagues, are moving to a new level — from alliance to eternal friendship. From today, these relations will also take on the character of eternal friendship in the political sphere.
Therefore, we believe that this visit will mark a new stage in the relations of brotherhood, alliance and eternal friendship between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. We separately thank brotherly Uzbekistan for its hospitality and congratulate it. A major interview by the head of state dedicated to Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations was published in the Uzbek media. In it, the president noted that we are always happy whenever we come to Uzbekistan,” Hajiyev added.
