Azerbaijan reaffirms support for Ukraine’s sovereignty at Recovery Conference in Rome

Azerbaijan has reiterated its unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during the Ukraine Recovery Conference held in Rome on July 10–11.

The Azerbaijani delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev, joined representatives from 56 countries, 27 international organisations and financial institutions, and 120 companies for the high-level event focused on Ukraine’s reconstruction amid ongoing conflict, Caliber.Az reports.

In his address, Rafiyev emphasised that the war in Ukraine continues to inflict serious damage on regional peace and security. He stressed that Azerbaijan, from the outset of the conflict, has advocated for a diplomatic resolution based on the principles of international law.

“The humanitarian consequences of the ongoing crisis are deeply concerning,” Rafiyev said, highlighting Azerbaijan’s role as an early responder in providing aid to Ukraine. He noted that Baku has delivered humanitarian assistance worth $42 million, including medical supplies, food, and electrical equipment.

The deputy minister also outlined Azerbaijan’s continued efforts to support the Ukrainian people. He said 330 children affected by the war have received medical and socio-psychological rehabilitation through programmes organised by Azerbaijan. Additionally, he pointed to Azerbaijan’s contributions in areas such as demining and the restoration of social infrastructure in Ukraine.

On the margins of the conference, Rafiyev held meetings with Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha and Italy’s Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Cirielli. Discussions centred on strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation in humanitarian and reconstruction efforts.
