EU backs Armenia-Azerbaijan talks in Abu Dhabi
The European Union has expressed its support for the July 10 meeting between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan held in Abu Dhabi, EU foreign affairs and security policy spokesperson Anitta Hipper said.
Speaking to Report, Hipper noted that the EU strongly supports the normalisation process between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports.
She noted that the European Union had previously welcomed the conclusion of negotiations on the draft agreement concerning peace and the establishment of inter-state relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia in March 2025, and emphasised that the recent meeting was seen as an important step toward achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
Hipper added that the EU was urging both sides to move forward with the signing and ratification of the draft peace agreement as soon as possible, and expressed the Union’s readiness to provide further support and expertise if requested by the parties.
It should be noted that on July 10, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, to discuss the peace agenda between the two countries.
Both sides agreed to continue bilateral negotiations and confidence-building measures between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
