Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met on April 29 with a delegation led by Colombian Deputy Foreign Minister Juana Castro Santamaría to discuss strengthening bilateral relations across a range of sectors, according to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The talks focused on expanding political dialogue, boosting trade and economic cooperation, and advancing initiatives to liberalize the visa regime between the two countries. Both sides also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in tourism, education, culture, humanitarian affairs, student exchange programmes, and inter-parliamentary relations, Caliber.Az reports.
Officials noted with satisfaction the growing interest in the Spanish language in Azerbaijan and the increasing participation of Azerbaijani students in relevant educational programmes.
The Azerbaijani side underscored the country’s role as host of COP29, its leadership in regional and international initiatives, and its chairmanship of several global organisations. The two sides also discussed strengthening cooperation on multilateral platforms and providing mutual support within international organisations.
A key point of discussion was the shared challenge of landmine contamination in both countries. The delegations emphasised the importance of cooperation in demining efforts and humanitarian mine action.
Following the ministerial meeting, a regular round of political consultations was held between the foreign ministries, led by Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov and Colombian Deputy Foreign Minister Juana Castro Santamaría.
