30 April 2026 19:45

The Turkish city of Izmir is set to host a series of events from May 2-6 to mark the 40th anniversary of its twinning ties with Baku.

Under the title “Azerbaijani Days,” the program features an exhibition that opened on April 28, showcasing 38 works by Azerbaijani artists, while the official opening ceremony is planned for May 5, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

A concert will take place on May 2, with performances by People’s Artist Alim Gasimov and Honoured Artist Fargana Gasimova.

The schedule also includes commemorative events dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of Azerbaijan’s National Leader, Heydar Aliyev, alongside “Azerbaijani Cinema Days” held within the framework of the Turan Festival.

In addition, the festival will host a meeting between business representatives from Azerbaijan and Türkiye and will conclude with a cultural and artistic program.

The events are jointly organised by the Azerbaijani Consulate General in Istanbul, the Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Türkiye, the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, and the Izmir Azerbaijan Association.

The agreement establishing twinning relations between Baku and Izmir was signed on April 29, 1986.
