Ukraine's Irpin names Azerbaijani president honorary citizen in show of gratitude
The City Council of Irpin in Ukraine has awarded Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, the title of honorary citizen of the city.
According to Report News Agency, citing its Eastern Europe bureau, the announcement was made by Anzhela Makeyeva, head of the Irpin City Council and acting mayor.
Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Azerbaijan has provided various forms of humanitarian assistance to the country, including to Irpin, following instructions from President Aliyev.
With support from the Azerbaijani government, key social infrastructure in the city has been restored, including a lyceum and a municipal polyclinic.
In addition, Azerbaijan has sent 11 aid packages to Ukraine to help address the country’s energy crisis.
As part of its humanitarian efforts, Azerbaijan has also received more than 500 children from war-affected regions of Ukraine for rehabilitation.
