Ukrainian expert: Ocampo turns Azerbaijan rights narrative into “family-run business”
Luis Moreno Ocampo, the former chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, is allegedly monetising his previous international standing and turning the issue of human rights in Azerbaijan into a “family-run business”, according to a Ukrainian analyst.
Speaking to Report, Igor Chalenko, head of the Ukrainian Centre for Analysis and Strategies, claimed that recently surfaced video materials concerning Ocampo illustrate what he described as a clear case of political corruption.
Chalenko alleged that the former senior international official is exploiting his past position and influence, using legal and political mechanisms to exert pressure through European judicial channels and via contacts within the European Parliament, including what he described as attempts to influence European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen through intermediaries.
He further claimed that Ocampo is coordinating with Armenian lobbying groups in the United States and engaging in efforts linked to political developments in Armenia, including alleged discussions around leadership change aimed at removing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
According to Chalenko, the activities form part of what he described as a broader scheme involving multiple actors, designed to generate influence and financial gain while maintaining sustained political pressure in the South Caucasus.
“There is no independence, no moral framework here — only a business model built on maintaining tension in the South Caucasus region,” he said, characterising the alleged network as part of wider hybrid political dynamics aimed at destabilisation.
