Azerbaijan's MFA: Baku liberation — turning point in statehood struggle

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry has described the liberation of Baku from occupation by Armenian-Dashnak forces in 1918 as a pivotal moment in the country’s struggle for statehood, emphasising the role of unity and cooperation in achieving the historic victory.

In a post on X,  the ministry marked the 108th anniversary of Baku’s liberation, commemorating the 1918 military campaign by the Caucasian Islamic Army and Azerbaijani forces, Caliber.Az reports.

The ministry said the Caucasian Islamic Army, which included the Azerbaijani Corps, played a central role in the liberation of the city. It said the victory demonstrated the Azerbaijani people’s determination to secure independence and statehood.

“This historic victory demonstrated the Azerbaijani people’s will for independence and statehood, as well as the unity, courage, and self-sacrifice of our people and their allies. With deep respect and gratitude, we honour the memory of all the heroes who gave their lives to achieve this historic victory,” the post says.
