Chairman: Organised disinformation targets Azerbaijan-Türkiye ties

Organised disinformation campaigns are being conducted against unity between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Farid Shafiyev, chairman of the board of the Centre for Analysis of International Relations and Multiculturalism, has said.

Speaking at a panel session titled "Turkic World Dialogues: Common Future, Common Vision" Shafiyev said intellectual ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye were important to strengthening unity among Turkic states, local media reports.

According to Shafiyev, Turkic countries needed to work together to counter disinformation.

Shafiyev also rejected attempts by certain circles to portray closer ties between Turkic states as an effort to establish a new pan-Turkist ideology, describing such claims as unfounded.

Turning to developments in the Middle East, he said Azerbaijan coordinated its regional policy with Türkiye and that this had caused concern among some circles.

“In particular, we are witnessing the organised spread of disinformation targeting the fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in the context of the Israeli issue,” he said.
