Baku, Tehran explore new avenues for prosecutorial cooperation

14 September 2026 12:09

Azerbaijan and Iran have discussed expanding cooperation between their prosecutor’s offices, with a focus on legal assistance, information sharing, and joint efforts to combat transnational crime.

Iranian Prosecutor General Mohammad Movahedi-Azad expressed particular gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the humanitarian assistance provided by Azerbaijan amid recent developments in the region as he met with his Azerbaijani counterpart Kamran Aliyev on the sidelines of the 7th Meeting of Prosecutors General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The officials exchanged views on prospects for further developing cooperation between the two countries’ prosecutor’s offices, broadening the exchange of professional experience and information, and making more effective use of mutual legal assistance mechanisms.

The meeting also underlined the importance of strengthening regional stability and security and intensifying joint efforts to combat terrorism, illicit drug trafficking, and other forms of transnational crime.
