Turkmenistan’s mufti calls for closer ties among Turkic religious leaders

The newly elected mufti of Turkmenistan has called for closer ties and cooperation among religious leaders from Turkic countries, saying shared religious values, culture, traditions and languages underpin relations between their peoples.

Rahman Gurbanmuradov, chairman of the Muslim Religious Administration of Turkmenistan, made the remarks at the seventh meeting of the Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Administrations of the member states of the Organisation of Turkic States, according to Azerbaijan’s state news agency.

“Bringing the religious leaders of Turkic peoples closer together, strengthening mutual ties and cooperation, and jointly addressing issues are among the main goals,” Gurbanmuradov said.

“I believe this meeting will be beneficial for the Turkic peoples,” he added.

Gurbanmuradov said the peoples had maintained brotherly relations throughout history, with their ties rooted in shared religious values, culture, traditions and languages.
