Erdoğan marks anniversary of Baku’s liberation

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has congratulated Azerbaijan on the 108th anniversary of the liberation of Baku, honouring the Ottoman commander and soldiers who took part in the 1918 campaign.

“I congratulate our friend and brother Azerbaijan on the anniversary of the liberation of its capital, Baku,” Erdoğan wrote on social media, adding that he “respectfully” honoured the memory of Nuri Pasha Killigil, commander of the Caucasus Islamic Army, and the soldiers who fought alongside him, Caliber.Az reports.

Today, September 15, marks the 108th anniversary of Baku’s liberation from occupation by Armenian-Bolshevik forces.

On September 15, the Caucasian Islamic Army and the Azerbaijani Corps liberated Baku from the occupiers.

Following this historic event, the capital of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) was moved from Ganja to Baku.
