Serbian leader hails ties with Azerbaijan, commends Baku for EXPO 2027 support

14 September 2026 13:55

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its plans to participate in EXPO 2027, the international exhibition scheduled to be held in Belgrade next year.

Vucic made the remarks in a post following a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Serbia Tahir Taghizada, who presented his credentials, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

The Serbian president expressed confidence that the strategic partnership and traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan would continue to develop dynamically during Taghizada’s tenure.

Vucic stressed that mutual support for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity remains one of the key foundations of trust between the two countries.

He also highlighted the intensive political dialogue and regular contacts between officials at all levels as clear indicators of the close ties between Belgrade and Baku.

The Serbian president further pointed to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s recent visit to Belgrade and the first meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council held during the visit, saying the meeting had opened a new chapter in bilateral relations.

Vucic also conveyed his best wishes to his Azerbaijani counterpart.

“I asked my esteemed interlocutor to convey my warmest greetings to my dear friend, President Ilham Aliyev, whose wise leadership and sincere affection for our country are among the foundations of the overall relations between our two states,” Vucic said.
