Azerbaijani diaspora criticises New York mayor over remarks on 1915 events PHOTO
Azerbaijani diaspora organisations across Europe have issued a statement condemning comments made by New York Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani on X, which referred to events of 1915.
According to Caliber.Az, the remarks have prompted dissatisfaction among Azerbaijani communities.
In their statement, the organisations said the comments were biased and distorted key principles of international law, including state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
They also rejected characterisations of Azerbaijan’s actions as “aggression”, “forced relocation” or “genocide”, describing such claims as unfounded and detached from reality.
The diaspora groups called for an apology over the statements and urged a more balanced approach grounded in the UN Charter, United Nations Security Council resolutions, and international legal norms.
The appeal was signed by representatives of Azerbaijani organisations operating in various European countries.
