Dutch envoy reaffirms “balanced” stance on Azerbaijan–Armenia peace process
The Netherlands has reiterated that its position on the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia remains “balanced,” despite recent tensions triggered by parliamentary actions in The Hague, according to Dutch Ambassador Marianne de Jong.
Speaking at a press briefing, the ambassador said the Dutch government continues to engage with both Baku and Yerevan and supports efforts aimed at achieving a lasting peace in the region. She indicated that this position has not changed and expressed hope that recent developments would not negatively affect intergovernmental relations, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Her remarks come after the Dutch parliament adopted anti-Azerbaijani documents undermining the country’s sovereignty and the ongoing peace process. De Jong confirmed that she had been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan in connection with the issue.
The ambassador also noted that Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen has maintained dialogue with both countries and continues to support the peace process.
Looking ahead, de Jong said the Netherlands is interested in organising interparliamentary consultations with Azerbaijan in the near future, describing such engagement as an opportunity for lawmakers from both countries to exchange views and strengthen dialogue.
