Türkiye backs lasting peace between Azerbaijan, Armenia, Fidan says

Türkiye supports Azerbaijan’s constructive efforts to normalise relations with Armenia and establish lasting peace in the South Caucasus, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said.

Fidan made the remarks during a press conference in Baku, Caliber.Az reports.

“As you know, throughout all the years that Karabakh remained under occupation, Türkiye supported Azerbaijan’s just cause. Today, our priority is to establish lasting peace, stability and prosperity in the region. We are closely following with satisfaction the latest steps toward achieving a final peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as Azerbaijan’s constructive position,” the Turkish FM noted.

He expressed confidence that the completion of the peace process would usher in a new era of cooperation across the region.

“We want the South Caucasus to be associated not with conflicts, but with peace, transport, energy, trade and economic development. The strength of the brotherhood between Türkiye and Azerbaijan will continue to play a key role in achieving this goal,” Fidan stressed.

The Turkish foreign minister also highlighted the deepening defence and security cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, noting that the two countries’ relations had been elevated to the level of an alliance.

“Joint exercises conducted by our armed forces, experience-sharing and training programs, as well as growing cooperation between defence industry companies, are all tangible manifestations of our partnership. We are firmly committed to further developing cooperation in this area, taking into account our mutual needs and capabilities,” FM Fidan added.
