Turkish Defence Ministry recalls Baku liberation as symbol of enduring brotherhood

The spirit of brotherhood forged in Baku 108 years ago remains alive today, Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence said in a statement marking the 108th anniversary of the liberation of the Azerbaijani capital.

The ministry highlighted the historic role played by the Islamic Army of the Caucasus in the liberation of Baku, recalling the contribution of Nuru Pasha and the Azerbaijani and Turkish forces who took part in the campaign, Caliber.Az reports.

“On the 108th anniversary of the liberation of Baku from enemy occupation, we remember Nuru Pasha and the heroes of the Islamic Army of the Caucasus who came to the aid of our Azerbaijani brothers with gratitude and respect,” the ministry said.

The anniversary is observed on September 15, marking the day in 1918 when Azerbaijani and Turkish servicemen entered Baku and brought an end to the control of the Armenian-Bolshevik forces over the capital. The liberation is widely regarded as one of the significant episodes in Azerbaijan’s 20th-century history.
