Türkiye unveils monument honouring Caucasus Islamic Army in Ankara PHOTO

A monument honouring the Caucasus Islamic Army has been unveiled in Ankara to mark the liberation of Baku, with Türkiye’s National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler describing it as a symbol of the unity between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.

Güler made the remarks at the unveiling ceremony for the monument, erected in front of the Shusha Congress Centre at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Türkiye to mark the 108th anniversary of Baku’s liberation from Bolshevik-Dashnak rule, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

He described the construction of the monument in honour of the Caucasus Islamic Army as a significant event and expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the initiative.

Recalling the unity, self-sacrifice and solidarity demonstrated by the two brotherly nations 108 years ago, the minister noted that the sons of Anatolia joined the Caucasus Islamic Army in 1918 with the aim of supporting Azerbaijan’s independence and liberating Baku from occupation.

“Our heroes turned the eternal brotherhood between Türkiye and Azerbaijan into a sacred legacy passed down from generation to generation. I believe that this monument, which we have unveiled today, will immortalise their bright memory and contribute to passing our shared history on to future generations,” he emphasised.
