Azerbaijan launches major tourism push with new state program
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has approved a new state program aimed at accelerating the development of the country’s tourism sector over the next five years.
President Aliyev signed an order approving the State Program for Tourism Development in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijani president’s official website.
A key focus of the program is the expansion of inbound tourism. The measures include streamlining the issuance of multiple-entry electronic visas and expanding the list of countries whose citizens are eligible for Azerbaijan’s e-visa regime, including visas issued at the border.
The program also envisages introducing a new “digital nomad” visa category, aimed at attracting remote workers and strengthening Azerbaijan’s appeal as an international tourism destination.
Authorities also intend to increase the tourism sector’s contribution to the country’s broader socioeconomic development.
The program outlines a number of measures to improve the quality and competitiveness of Azerbaijan’s tourism industry. These include establishing a sustainable quality-assurance system, strengthening dispute-resolution mechanisms to protect consumer rights, and introducing enhanced sanitation and safety requirements for hotels and other accommodation facilities.
The government also plans to establish a professional support system for mountain tourism, alongside other measures designed to diversify and improve tourism services across the country.
