Azerbaijan sees surge in air passenger traffic, led by Russia and Türkiye
The State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan has published a comprehensive report detailing air passenger transportation statistics for the Republic.
Between January and June of this year, Azerbaijan saw a total of 1,490,112 passengers transported by air, marking a significant increase of 38.1% compared to the same period last year, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
During this period, the largest number of passengers, totalling 412,014 people, travelled to Russia, which reflects a growth of 28.7% from the previous year. Following Russia are Türkiye with 377,083 passengers (+23.6%) and the United Arab Emirates with 198,774 passengers (+48.9%).
In June alone, Azerbaijan recorded 297,361 air passengers, an increase of 36.6% year-on-year. Specifically, the number of travellers to Russia in June rose by 32.9% to 77,901 people.
Overall, from January to June, Azerbaijan transported a total of 1,568,622 passengers by air, marking a 39.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
The highest volume of passengers arriving in Azerbaijan during the first half of the year came from Russia, totalling 442,964 people, representing a growth of 30.8% year-on-year.
In June, Azerbaijan welcomed 341,384 passengers by air, marking a 36.1% increase from the same month in the previous year. Notably, arrivals from Russia in June reached 95,638 passengers, an increase of 22.3% compared to May of the previous year.
Türkiye secured the second spot in air passenger transportation to Azerbaijan with 368,427 arrivals, reflecting a 23.4% increase from the same period in 2023. The United Arab Emirates completed the top three with 215,537 passengers, an increase of 47.6% year-on-year.
