Azerbaijan to expand gas exports, reaching 12 countries by December Energy minister says
Azerbaijan is set to increase the number of countries importing its natural gas to 12 by December, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said.
The minister made the announcement during his speech at the session titled “Challenges and Opportunities for a Sustainable Future” at the Istanbul Energy Forum, Caliber.Az reports.
Shahbazov also highlighted Azerbaijan’s significant role in global energy initiatives, particularly in the context of COP29 efforts to accelerate the global energy transition. He emphasized that Azerbaijan is making substantial progress in the energy sector, undertaking ambitious projects under the National Renewable Energy Program. As part of these initiatives, Azerbaijan plans to build 2 GW of renewable energy facilities by 2027, a move that will free up 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas for export.
In addition to its domestic energy advancements, Shahbazov noted that discussions are underway about exporting “green energy” from Georgia to Türkiye and Europe, an initiative prompted by Bulgaria.
