Azerbaijan transports over 170 million tons of cargo in 2024
The total volume of cargo transportation in Azerbaijan reached 173.3 million tons from January to September 2024, marking a 4% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Of the total cargo handled, 59.2% was shipped via road transport, 28.9% through pipelines, 8% by rail, 3.7% by sea, and 0.2% by air, Caliber.Az reports, citing the State Statistics Committee.
Notably, non-state transport enterprises accounted for 78.7% of total transportation, while the remaining portion was attributed to the state sector.
The volume of cargo transshipped by non-state transport enterprises increased by 5.5% during the reporting period. Specifically, rail transport carried 13.9 million tons of cargo, reflecting a 1.5% rise compared to January-September 2023.
Maritime transport reported a volume of 6.358 million tons of various goods, experiencing a decline of 8.6%. Road transport saw a notable increase, transporting 102.6 million tons, which is an 8.3% rise. Air transport also witnessed growth, handling 306,000 tons, up by 18.5%.
In terms of transportation via pipelines, 28.86 million tons of oil were transported through major oil pipelines during the reporting period, representing a decline of 3.1%. Additionally, gas pipelines transported 29.57 billion cubic meters of gas, down by 1.3%.
