Azerbaijan, Iran strengthen energy ties within joint working group initiative
During a meeting in Tehran, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad have discussed the establishment of a joint working group aimed at accelerating bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.
Paknejad expressed support for any initiatives that enhance collaboration in the oil and energy fields, emphasising the need for the development of the corresponding infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Mustafayev highlighted that the purpose of his visit to Iran is to engage in discussions about the implementation of future projects.
He previously met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and other officials in Tehran.
President Pezeshkian expressed his support for any initiatives that foster development and collaboration.
During the meeting, the Iranian president welcomed the establishment of new railway and road routes between Iran and Azerbaijan.
He also highlighted the desire to continue and expand cooperation in the fields of energy and agriculture.
Furthermore, President Pezeshkian assured that Iran would closely monitor the judicial proceedings related to the recent attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran.
He emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring that all legal processes regarding the incident are fully addressed.
This statement follows a tragic event on January 27, 2023, when an armed assailant stormed the Azerbaijani embassy, killing the head of security with Kalashnikov rifle and injuring two other guards. In the aftermath of the attack, the embassy suspended its operations in Tehran.
