02 June 2026 18:49

Azerbaijan has discussed the development of cooperation with the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

According to the Ministry of Energy, the discussions took place during Baku Energy Week at meetings between Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and GECF Secretary General Philip Mshelbila, as well as IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera.

At the meeting with the GECF Secretary General, participants reviewed global gas market trends and the growing role of natural gas amid increasing electricity demand.

During talks with La Camera, the work in renewable energy was highly praised. The IRENA chief expressed readiness to strengthen coordination with international financial institutions to expand renewable energy projects across Central Asia and the wider region.

The discussions also covered regional integration in renewable energy, the development of power grids, energy storage systems, and the expansion of interconnectors.
