Lukashenko warns Armenia against repeating “Ukrainian scenario”
After the EAEU summit in Astana, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko urged the Armenian public to “be very careful” when choosing the country’s future path between the Eurasian Union and Europe.
He said that many statements in Armenia are currently linked to the upcoming parliamentary elections on June 7, which, in his view, explains discussions about a possible withdrawal from the EAEU and a shift toward the EU, according to Belarusian media.
Lukashenko noted that EAEU leaders adopted a joint statement supporting the idea of a referendum in Armenia. “We are not putting pressure on the people, but we understand that this is political campaigning ahead of elections,” he said, adding that such steps “border on humiliating the EAEU.”
The Belarusian leader warned that Armenia should avoid repeating what he called the “Ukrainian scenario.” “So that Armenians, who have just come out of a war, do not end up in a difficult situation. There is no need to rush; one must act wisely,” he stressed.
Lukashenko also claimed that current developments in Armenia benefit “certain circles” and indirectly referred to European politicians who, according to him, made promises in Yerevan in early May.
