Moscow claims strikes on Ukraine's intelligence and military sites

05 September 2026 09:34

Russian forces struck metallurgical plants in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region that Moscow says are involved in supporting the country’s defence industry, Russia’s Defence Ministry said on September 5.

The ministry said Russian forces also hit logistics facilities and an electrical substation in Mykolaiv and Odesa regions, as well as other sites it described as supporting Ukraine’s military operations.

According to the statement, the targets included a dry cargo vessel carrying weapons and military equipment in the port of Chornomorsk, a logistics centre, fuel storage and distribution facilities used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and a radio and electronic intelligence centre in the Kyiv region.

The reported strikes come amid a renewed escalation in Russian attacks on Ukraine, including a drone strike on the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service in central Kyiv on September 4. Ukrainian officials said the drone was directed at the office of acting SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad.

The latest Russian claims also come as Kyiv has called for a temporary halt to aerial attacks during the planned visits by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who are expected to travel to Moscow and Kyiv for talks on ending the war.
