Seven injured in Russian drone strike on Kyiv’s SBU headquarters PHOTO/VIDEO/UPDATED

The number of people injured in a Russian drone strike on Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district has risen to seven, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The district is home to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) building targeted in the attack.

“Seven people are already known to have been injured in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Six people were wounded and are being treated in inpatient departments of city hospitals,” Klitschko said.

Ukrainska Pravda, citing a source, reported that acting SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad was not in his office when the strike occurred.

The attack hit the SBU’s central headquarters in Kyiv, according to Ukrainian officials. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the drone had been directed at the office of the SBU chief.

A drone struck the main headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) in central Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, as Russian and Ukrainian forces continue to exchange attacks.

Zelenskyy said he spoke with SBU Director Oleksandr Poklad, who confirmed that the drone hit the agency’s central building on Volodymyrska Street, opposite St. Sophia’s Cathedral, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.

“All emergency services are on the scene. All those injured will receive the necessary assistance,” Zelenskyy said.

According to the Ukrainian president, the drone was directed toward the office of the SBU chief inside the building. Zelenskyy said Ukraine would “respond in kind to this attack”.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said five people were injured in the city’s Shevchenkivskyi district. Four of those injured were taken to hospital, he said.

Emergency services were deployed to the site following the strike, while authorities assessed the damage and responded to the incident.
