Lithuanian expert: Unified permit system needed to simplify trade along TITR
Lithuanian transport experts suggest a unified digital permit system for freight transport along the Middle Corridor.
This recommendation was voiced by a Manager at Lithuania’s Transport Innovation Association, Julius Skakauskas, in the course of his visit to Baku, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
Speaking at the 2nd Caspian International Transport, Transit and Logistics Forum, Skakauskas said digitalization remains one of the key challenges facing the Middle Corridor (formally known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route [TITR]).
“Road transport permits are important, but what we need is a ‘Single Middle Corridor Permit’ system,” he emphasized, explaining that carriers should be able to use one unified digital permit valid across the entire route instead of requiring multiple permits.
According to the Lithuanian expert, the Baltic state supports the initiative and believes countries along the corridor could work together to develop and implement such a system.
He noted that a common digital permit would help streamline cross-border transport procedures, reduce administrative burdens, and improve the efficiency of freight movement along the Middle Corridor.
