Official: Azerbaijan-Türkiye green energy corridor could expand to 3 GW
The transmission capacity of the planned Azerbaijan-Türkiye Green Energy Corridor could eventually be expanded to 3 gigawatts (GW), triple its initial capacity, according to Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov.
Speaking during a panel discussion on the second day of Baku Energy Week, Zeynalov said the project is expected to begin with the export of 1 GW of electricity through a new interconnector linking Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“The project will connect mainland Azerbaijan with Türkiye via the Zangezur Corridor,” Zeynalov said. “Depending on commercial and technical feasibility, the transmission capacity could be increased to 3 GW in the future.”
He highlighted the significant energy potential in western Türkiye, noting that electricity transmitted through the corridor could eventually be exported onward to European markets.
