22 October 2022 13:30
Azerbaijani chess player Govhar Beidullayeva won the World Youth Championship in Sardinia, Italy, ahead of schedule.
In the tenth round, she drew with Zala Urh of Slovenia and scored 8.5 points, Caliber.Az reports.
Lyaman Hajiyeva drew with Poland's Livia Jaroka.
Before the last eleventh round to be played today, Govhar is one point ahead of Assel Serikbay from Kazakhstan. But even if our chess player loses on the last game day, she will still take 1st place, as she defeated Serikbay in a head-to-head match.
Govhar Beidullayeva thus went down in Azerbaijani chess history as the first woman chess player to win the World Twenty-Year Champion title.
