Alpine’s Gasly loses qualification spot in Baku due to fuel violation
Alpine F1 driver Pierre Gasly has been disqualified from the qualifying session of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix for violating technical regulations, but he has been granted permission to start the race.
The stewards of the Grand Prix made the decision after a review revealed that Gasly's car (#10) exceeded the permitted fuel consumption of 100 kg/h during his final fast lap in the second part of qualifying, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
A technical delegate from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) confirmed the violation, which the Alpine team did not contest. They attributed the issue to an unexpected, short-term malfunction that temporarily caused the fuel volume to spike.
In line with standard procedure for such violations, Gasly and his car were disqualified from the qualification results. However, the stewards allowed him to start the race.
