Messi fires four in Inter Miami’s 7-1 rout of Montreal

Inter Miami thrashed Montreal 7-1 at home in a Major League Soccer (MLS) regular-season match.

Argentine forward Lionel Messi, 39, scored four goals for the winners, finding the net in the 40th, 52nd and 83rd minutes, as well as the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time.

Casemiro (20th minute), Luis Suárez (80th) and Alexander Shaw (89th) also scored for the hosts. Fabian Herbers scored Montreal’s only goal in the 37th minute.

Messi scored twice from free kicks in the match, taking his career tally of goals scored directly from free kicks to 74. His overall career tally has now reached 927 goals, with Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo of Saudi club Al-Nassr leading the all-time scoring chart.

In the current MLS season, Messi has made 19 appearances for Inter Miami, scoring 18 goals and providing 10 assists.
