First Formula 2 qualifying session underway at Azerbaijan Grand Prix

The first Formula 2 qualifying session of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix got underway in Baku at 14:00 local time on Thursday, September 24.

A second qualifying session is scheduled for 14:30, with both sessions taking place at Baku City Circuit, as per local media.

The first qualifying session will set the grid for the Sprint and first Feature Race, while the second will determine the starting order for the second Feature Race.

Earlier on Thursday, Kush Maini of ART Grand Prix topped the Formula 2 free practice session with a fastest lap of 1:56.532. Maini finished ahead of championship contenders Alexander Dunne and Nikola Tsolov.

The 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend officially began in Baku on Thursday, September 24, with Formula 1 and Formula 2 sessions taking place at Baku City Circuit. The event will run through Saturday, September 26, when the Formula 1 race is scheduled to take place.

This year’s Formula 2 round in Baku features an expanded format, with two qualifying sessions and two Feature Races instead of the championship’s usual single Feature Race.
