George Russell targets wins in every remaining race after Baku triumph

George Russell said his Azerbaijan Grand Prix victory in Baku was especially satisfying after a run of disappointing results in recent Formula 1 rounds.

The Mercedes driver converted his pole position into a race win and said he had been able to achieve the result he was seeking after several difficult weekends.

“I go into every race aiming for victory. Today, everything worked out for me. The last Grand Prix did not go well for me. But in Baku I achieved a good result. On the final lap, when I saw the yellow flags, I slowed down a little,” Russell said in a post-race interview, according to Report.

Russell added that he intends to pursue victory in each of the remaining races of the 2026 season.

Max Verstappen finished runner-up for Red Bull, while his teammate Isack Hadjar completed the podium in third. The result also marked a strong weekend for Russell after he had secured pole in qualifying by 0.837 seconds over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. Formula 1 described the qualifying performance as a dominant display, with Russell taking his fifth pole of the season.
