Russell on pole as Baku Grand Prix heads for final showdown

The final day of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will feature the second Formula 2 main race before the Formula 1 race that will bring the Baku Grand Prix to a close.

The Formula 2 race is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. local time on September 26, followed by the Formula 1 main race at 3:00 p.m., Caliber.Az reports per local media. 

DAMS Lucas Oil driver Dino Beganović won the Formula 2 sprint race on the previous day, while Rodin Motorsport driver Alex Dunne claimed victory in the first main race.

In Formula 1, Mercedes driver George Russell secured pole position after recording the fastest time in qualifying.

Ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli leads the drivers' standings with 292 points. His teammate George Russell is second on 211 points, while Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton is third with 191 points.

Mercedes also tops the constructors' championship with 503 points. Ferrari is second with 358 points, followed by McLaren on 306.
