Gianni Infantino to seek another term as FIFA president in 2027

FIFA President Gianni Infantino will seek another term as head of the world football governing body in the 2027 election, journalist Rob Harris said on X.

“The FIFA President announced in April that he will stand for re-election in 2027. Of course, nothing has changed. Mr Infantino will be standing for re-election,” a FIFA representative said in comments cited by Harris.

Infantino, 56, was first elected FIFA president at an extraordinary congress in February 2016 and was subsequently re-elected twice unopposed. The next FIFA presidential election is scheduled for March 2027, with November 18 set as the deadline for submitting candidacies.

In July, 2026, Infantino wanted to establish a company to oversee FIFA’s major men’s and women’s competitions. He argued that creating FIFA Forward Enterprise would increase revenues for FIFA member associations and contribute to the development of football worldwide. FIFA said the proposed scheme could generate $4.2 billion.

The initiative faced widespread criticism from football officials, federations and other organizations. UEFA, CONCACAF, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) all rejected Infantino’s proposal. UEFA, meanwhile, said it would boycott FIFA competitions unless the organization abandoned the idea.
