Azerbaijan dominates Krakow judo tournament with 11-medal haul PHOTO
Azerbaijani judokas have claimed 11 medals at an international tournament in Krakow, Poland, securing first place in the overall team standings.
The national team collected seven gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the competition, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Among the senior competitors, Balabay Aghayev triumphed in the 66kg category, defeating all of his opponents to take the gold medal.
Azerbaijan also dominated several U-16 events, with Agil Naghiyev (55kg), Huseyn Shikhaliyev (66kg) and Mahammadali Mehdi (81kg) all reaching the top of the podium.
Earlier, Azerbaijan’s U-18 boys’ national team added seven more medals to the country’s tally, including three gold, two silver and two bronze.
Ali Abdullayev (60kg), Huseyn Shikhaliyev (66kg) and Omar Atayev (81kg) won gold medals, while Dunyamali Asdanli (66kg) and Ruslan Kazimov (+90kg) secured silver.
Ravan Mammadli (55kg) and Ali Jafarov (66kg) completed Azerbaijan’s medal haul with bronze medals.
The strong performance in Krakow saw Azerbaijan finish at the top of the tournament’s team rankings.
