Fiery F2 crash brings Madrid practice to halt

11 September 2026 21:12

Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak suffered a dramatic crash during Formula 2 practice at Madrid’s new Madring circuit, with his car bursting into flames after a heavy impact with the barriers.

The Thai driver was among the first F2 competitors to take to the newly added circuit following the conclusion of F3 practice. However, only a few minutes into the session, Inthraphuvasak spun at Turn 19 before hitting the barrier rear-first.

The car immediately caught fire, reportedly after the fuel tank ruptured. Inthraphuvasak quickly escaped the vehicle unharmed, but track marshals needed additional time to extinguish the flames.

The incident triggered a 24-minute clean-up operation, significantly reducing the practice time available to F2 drivers ahead of qualifying later in the day. The session eventually resumed with just six minutes remaining.

Inthraphuvasak’s crash marked the second red flag of the day at Madring, after F3 driver Nicola Lacorte also made contact with the barriers towards the end of the earlier practice session.
