Azerbaijan reinforces eco-friendly measures with "Green Post" at F1 track

15 September 2024 12:50

The Baku City Circuit (BCC) has reinstated the "Green Post" at Turn 19 of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix Formula 1 track.

This action was taken as part of the ongoing commitment to environmental protection, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The goal of the project, launched last year, is to raise global awareness about environmental protection by leveraging the widespread popularity of motorsport.

“The ‘Green Post’ symbolises Azerbaijan’s commitment to creating a greener, more environmentally friendly future for motorsport. Motosport marshals at this post are equipped with custom-designed green uniforms made entirely from recycled materials. All equipment which is used at the post meets stringent environmental standards, minimising plastic use and prioritising eco-friendly alternatives,” the Baku City Circuit says.

Through this initiative, Baku City Circuit highlights the crucial role of motorsport in advancing environmental responsibility. It represents a successful project aligned with Formula 1's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts.

Since 2019, Formula 1 has been implementing a sustainability strategy aimed at achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2030, fostering innovation in every host city, and making the sports more inclusive.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2024, running from September 13-15, continues capturing global attention. The event, which first debuted in 2017, is held on the Baku City Circuit, a renowned street circuit in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital. The race is set to remain at this venue until at least 2026.
