Azerbaijani president, Iranian minister talk over North-South Corridor Ahead of Pezeshkian’s Visit to Baku
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met on April 8 with Farzaneh Sadegh, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Co-Chair of the Azerbaijan-Iran Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation.
They discussed deepening bilateral relations ahead of an expected visit by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Aliyev welcomed the recent surge in high-level exchanges between Baku and Tehran, saying they offered a valuable platform for reinforcing friendly ties and advancing cooperation across a range of sectors.
The Azerbaijani leader also commended the holding of the Joint Commission meeting during Sadegh’s visit, highlighting its role in facilitating joint projects in trade, energy, transport, and economic development.
Sadegh, who delivered a message of goodwill from President Pezeshkian, reaffirmed Iran’s interest in strengthening ties with Azerbaijan, noting the two countries' shared cultural, historical, religious, and familial bonds.
She emphasised the significance of convening the Joint Commission ahead of the Iranian President’s planned trip to Azerbaijan, pointing to the opportunity it presented for addressing key bilateral matters.
The two sides also reviewed ongoing efforts to expand the North-South transport corridor, including the construction of a new automobile bridge over the Araz River linking Aghband and Kelale, as well as other areas of mutual interest.
