Azerbaijani, Turkmen leaders tour destroyed areas of Fuzuli city in Karabakh PHOTO

On July 17, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, toured the destroyed areas of Fuzuli city.

The guest was introduced to the city’s Master Plan, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Emin Huseynov, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for the districts of Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend, informed Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov about the destruction and acts of vandalism committed in the Fuzuli district during the 30-year occupation, as well as the ongoing and planned works based on the city’s Master Plan.

Once densely populated and flourishing, Fuzuli city was completely looted and devastated during the Armenian occupation. After the liberation of the territories, the Master Plan for Fuzuli city was prepared in a short time, approved by President Ilham Aliyev, and presented to the public in 2021.

Fuzuli is located at the intersection of the main transport arteries of the Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur economic regions, possessing significant transport and logistics potential. The total area of Fuzuli city is approximately 1,942 hectares. According to the Master Plan, the city is planned to have a population of 50,000 by 2040.

The Fuzuli Memorial Complex, which will include the Occupation and Victory Museums, will be established; the Kurmangazy Creativity Center has been constructed; a city hospital is under construction; and a City Park will be created. Large-scale landscaping, construction, and greening works will be carried out.

According to the plan, social infrastructure facilities such as kindergartens and schools will be located within 300 and 500 meters respectively. As a result of the planned works, Fuzuli city will become one of the major cities in the liberated territories, built in accordance with modern standards and architectural features. The “Smart City” concept will be implemented here.

The administrative center of Fuzuli city, covering more than 12 hectares, will be divided into three parts.
