Belgium starts discussions about possible EU trade sanctions against Israel
Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo has said that Belgium started discussions about possible EU trade sanctions against Israel due to its actions in the Gaza Strip, which led to the killing of more than 34,000 people.
The Belgian government had already decided a few weeks ago to impose trade sanctions on Israel. If Belgium imposes these sanctions itself, the trade routes will simply change. That is why we have been discussing for several weeks the solution to the problem with other European countries, De Croo noted, according to the National News Agency.
“This problem must be solved without declaring it out loud. The EU has concluded an association agreement with Israel, which includes conditions related to human rights,” he added.
The EU had previously imposed sanctions on Israeli settlers for the first time due to violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.
