EU: US has the role to put more pressure on Russia
Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, has called on the United States to increase pressure on Russia to end its aggression in Ukraine.
Kallas emphasised that while the US has been actively involved in shuttle diplomacy, the next crucial step requires Russia to agree to a ceasefire, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“The United States has called the talks and is doing the shuttle diplomacy. But right now, I think what we need is also Russia to agree to this ceasefire and to move on,” Kallas said.
She also outlined a series of actions that Russia could take to demonstrate goodwill, including the return of Ukrainian children deported to Russia and the release of prisoners of war. “There are many things that they can show,” she added.
Kallas stressed that the US has an essential role in applying greater pressure on Russia to bring an end to the war. “I think the United States also has the role to put more pressure on Russia to stop this war,” she concluded.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump expressed hope for a potential agreement between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump emphasised his confidence that Putin intends to negotiate a settlement to the conflict in Ukraine, adding that there is a "psychological deadline" for initiating a ceasefire in the region.
