Italian FM says Zelenskyy "not very generous" toward Europe
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for what he described as unfair accusations against Europe, following the Ukrainian leader’s remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Commenting on Zelenskyy’s speech, Tajani said the European Union had done everything possible to support Ukraine and safeguard its independence since Russia’s full-scale invasion, Caliber.Az reports per Italian media.
“I don’t think he is very generous towards Europe,” Tajani said, stressing that the EU has provided extensive political, financial and military assistance to Kyiv in the face of Russian aggression.
Tajani underlined that European countries have consistently stood by Ukraine and rejected the notion that Europe had failed to act, arguing instead that EU support has been both substantial and sustained.
Earlier at the Davos Forum, President Zelenskyy sharply criticised European leaders, accusing them of failing to take decisive action to defend Ukraine against Russia.
“Europe loves to discuss the future, but avoids taking action today, action that defines what kind of future we will have,” he said.
Referencing the film Groundhog Day, which portrays the same day repeating endlessly, Zelenskyy said little progress had been made since his appearance at last year’s forum. He contrasted Europe’s approach with that of US President Donald Trump, with whom he held a closed-door meeting ahead of his speech.
