Danish prime minister travels to Greenland after talks in Brussels

23 January 2026 17:26

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is travelling from Brussels to Nuuk on January 23 for talks with Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, following meetings with European and NATO leaders in the Belgian capital.

Frederiksen is flying to Greenland after attending a summit of European Union heads of state and government in Brussels, where she also held discussions with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Caliber.Az reports.

The talks are expected to focus on security and cooperation in the Arctic region.

After her meeting with Rutte, Frederiksen said that she and the NATO secretary general shared the view that the Alliance needs to strengthen its engagement in the Arctic. She added that defence and security in the region should be considered a responsibility for NATO as a whole.
