Biden to deliver two major speeches in his farewell address
US President Joe Biden is preparing to deliver two significant speeches before leaving office, aiming to outline his legacy after more than five decades in public service.
According to sources familiar with the plans, the first address will focus on foreign policy and is expected after Biden returns from a trip to Italy on January 12. The second, a farewell address, will reflect on his career and offer a vision for America’s future, Caliber.Az reports via US media.
Biden’s foreign policy speech is set to emphasize his belief in the strength of U.S. alliances, highlighting efforts to bolster NATO, deepen relations in the Indo-Pacific, and support Ukraine since Russia's 2022 invasion. It remains unclear how prominently the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan, widely criticized for its handling, will feature.
The president is also expected to touch on combating terrorism, including efforts against ISIS, but may avoid focusing on domestic threats.
In his farewell address, Biden is expected to echo sentiments from past presidents, such as George W. Bush and Barack Obama, reflecting on his presidency and public service.
Biden’s final weeks in office include visits to New Orleans to meet victims of a recent attack, California to highlight environmental achievements, and Rome for what is likely his last international trip as president.
He is also expected to issue additional pardons, focusing on sentencing disparities, and is considering clemency for individuals who may face political retribution under the incoming Trump administration.
The president will leave office on January 20, concluding his term with a message to the nation about resilience, unity, and the importance of democratic alliances.
